“Invest in Women at all Levels,” Advocates Urge at Liberia’s International Women’s Day Event

Liberian women from diverse backgrounds—including members of the Civil Peace Service Liberia Network—joined thousands of others to celebrate International Women’s Day (IWD). During the program, several prominent Liberian women used the occasion to call for greater investment in women and expanded opportunities that will empower them to contribute meaningfully to Liberia’s development.

Civil Peace Service Liberia Network Coordinator, Madam Decontee E. George

Madam Decontee E. George, Coordinator of the Civil Peace Service Liberia Network, noted that the first important step in celebrating International Women’s Day is participation. According to her, the strong turnout of women at the event serves as a powerful reminder of the important role women play in society.

She emphasized that women are valuable contributors to national development and should be given the necessary support, safe spaces, and opportunities to thrive. Madam George called on Liberian society, institutions, and systems to make deliberate investments in women at all levels.

She further explained that when women are not empowered, many remain limited in their opportunities and are unable to contribute fully to society. However, when women are empowered through education, resources, and opportunities, they become valuable assets—positively impacting their homes, communities, and the nation as a whole.

Madam George concluded by stressing that empowering women is not only beneficial for women themselves but is also essential for sustainable development and lasting peace in Liberia.

Roseline Payne of the Liberia YMCA expressed appreciation for the strong turnout of Liberian women during the International Women’s Day celebration. She said the large participation reflected the growing commitment of women across the country to stand together and advocate for progress and equality.

Madam Roseline Payne

Madam Payne called on Liberian women to strengthen their spirit of unity by working together and supporting one another. “Collaboration among women will not only uplift individuals, but will also contribute to better service to the country and its people.” Roseline added.

She also encouraged mothers to intentionally invest in their children through proper care, guidance, and discipline. She noted that when parents, especially mothers, nurture their children with strong values and support their education and development, it creates long-term benefits for families and the nation as a whole.

Roseline emphasized the importance of collaboration among women not only within Liberia but also across the world, stressing that global solidarity among women can accelerate progress toward equality, empowerment, and sustainable development.
