FAITH, SOLIDARITY, AND DEVELOPMENT: CATHOLIC WOMEN OF THE DIOCESE OF YAGOUA ACTIVATE THEIR ECONOMIC AUTONOMY.
Saare Tabitha plays a key role in empowering Catholic women in the Diocese of Yagoua by supporting them through training, entrepreneurship, and community development initiatives.
The Diocese of Yagoua, located in the Far North Region of Cameroon, covers three departments: Mayo Danay, Mayo Kani, and Logone and Chari. Within the diocese, the dynamism of Catholic women drives charitable activities in the communities. These communities have been affected by a series of crises, including famines, floods, and epidemics. With the aim of raising living standards in the Far North, Saare Tabitha has become a key player in supporting vulnerable girls and women. This center, run by the Union of Baptist Churches of Cameroon and named “House of Tabitha” in reference to the disciple in the New Testament (Acts 9:36) known for her charitable works, has been working for several years to empower women through training, mentoring, and economic support programs.
- A mission rooted in faith and integral development
Saare Tabitha, through its Civil Service for Peace program in Cameroon, is part of a dynamic and synergistic approach. This is the case with the group of Catholic women, under the leadership of Bishop Barthélemy Yaouda, Bishop of the Diocese of Yagoua since 2008, who makes it a point of honor to promote the integral development of the human person. In a context marked by poverty, food insecurity, and climate challenges, women play a central role in the resilience of communities.
- Training for Economic Empowerment
Saare Tabitha offers practical training in sewing, food processing, micro-project management, and literacy. These activities enable women to develop income-generating skills while strengthening their self-confidence and their role in society. Saare Tabitha thus acts as a catalyst for empowerment, particularly for rural women who are often marginalized.
- A space for solidarity and spirituality
Beyond its economic aspect, Saare Tabitha is also a space for encounter, prayer, and sharing that fosters social cohesion and strengthens Christian faith through spiritual retreats and prayer groups. This holistic approach aligns with the diocese’s vision of building a vibrant Church, close to the people and committed to social transformation.
