Introduction

Peacebuilding is a challenging topic on which CPC partners work in their daily lives. The links between regions, between African countries and between the South and the North play a role as important as the different themes that are affected.

In the situation our partners are living in this year 2016, it is more than ever important in the face of the conflicts in the DRC, the terrorist threat and the dangers of fragmentation in Cameroon, the post-Ebola challenges in Sierra Leone and Liberia to work together for a more effective and sustainable peace work.

We asked colleagues and partners to share their experiences and the challenges they face. It turns out that already the definition of the concepts network and networking is multiple and varied. We therefore chose to share with you different approaches and definitions.

This publication is intended as a tool for learning and exchanging our practices and existing approaches.

In the first part of the publication, Anja Vollendorf and colleagues from the RIO network in the DRC tell us about their experiences, Flaubert Djateng of the nucleus, after an article on the context of the two concepts in our understanding and certain specificities of SCP networks by Christiane Kayser Accompaniment explains the difference between network and networking and lists some basic principles, Maurizio Guerrazzi, SCP coordinator of the AGEH in Cameroon contributes with a personal reflection on networking. Afterwards we inserted the definitions and concepts of networking for peace developed by Pax Christi International; then the head of the council of churches in Sierra Leone, Ebun James DeKam shares his definitions and his understanding of networking, Dupleix Kuenzob of World Youth Dynamics (DMJ) develops his perception of the SCP network in Cameroon, Alex Vojvoda describes the experiences in networking with community media in Cameroon and conducted an interview with researcher Alison Gilchrist on the notion of community at the center of networks, Dupleix Kuenzob shares the experiences of his organization DMJ with networking and action research, Andreas Kahler and Paul Guy Hyomeni of the RECODH network in Cameroon gives their analysis as a human rights network on the links between networking and peace in a globalized world.

In the second part of the publication we have chosen to make extracts from a thematic document of the European Center for the Prevention of Conflicts, developed by Willemijn Verkoren, on networking for peace, which provides interesting theoretical foundations on the different concepts and also talks about the principles, obstacles and ways to go beyond them. We want to foster a more thorough discussion of the foundations of our approaches and strategies. We hope that these contributions will help you in your everyday work. Your feedback is welcome.
