These are the words of Ruth A. Lamin<\/strong>, a resident of Kakata, Margibi County, and one of the beneficiaries of the Center for Justice and Peace Studies’ (CJPS) Empowerment of Adolescent Girls and Young Women<\/strong> program. Through the mentorship initiative, she gained the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to overcome personal challenges and pursue a more empowered future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project aims to improve girls’ enrollment, retention, and meaningful participation in education by strengthening girls’ advocacy clubs, providing training in leadership, advocacy, and sexual and reproductive health, and supplying learning materials to vulnerable students. It also promotes positive gender norms, encourages supportive parenting practices, raises awareness of school policies, amplifies girls’ voices, and engages fathers and communities in preventing sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and addressing other barriers to girls’ education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruth is one of many young women who successfully completed the mentorship program in Kakata under the implementation of CJPS, with support from Bread for the World (Brot f\u00fcr die Welt)<\/strong>. Speaking during the graduation ceremony, she reflected on how the program transformed her confidence and personal development. She explained that she had once been a very shy person who struggled to express herself in public but can now speak openly and confidently. She also admitted that she previously lacked the skills to manage her personal finances effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Whenever I received money, I would spend it without saving, hoping that more would come another day,” Ruth recalled. “The mentorship program has completely changed my mindset and attitude toward managing my finances.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ruth testified that the mentorship program empowered her to take greater responsibility for her well-being, meet her personal needs, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

invest in her personal growth and future. She said the experience transformed her mindset, helping her develop confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of self-worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The program taught me to value myself, become self-reliant, and avoid depending entirely on other people for my survival and progress,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Implemented under the theme “Building Resilient Communities through Responsible Fatherhood and Girls’ and Young Women’s Leadership,”<\/strong> the initiative promotes responsible fatherhood, girls’ education, and community engagement to create safer and more supportive environments for adolescent girls and young women. The project is being implemented in Kakata, Margibi County; Todee, Montserrado County; and Gbarnga, Bong County.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
