About twenty delegates from the Civil Society of the countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) took part in Lubumbashi, capital of the province of Katanga, on 29-30 September and 1 October 2010, workshop on peacebuilding in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

The objective of the conference was to strengthen the participants’ knowledge in the prevention and management of conflicts with a view to a concerted fight against poverty in the region.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

Participants were all from African countries that have experienced armed conflicts: Chad, Cameroon, Rwanda, Burundi, Gabon, Central African Republic, Angola and DRC. Each of these countries is called upon to share its experience on the conflicts experienced and the methods applied for the return of peace.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

This was to allow the Congolese people present at these meetings to learn a lesson in order to resolve the armed conflicts that persist in the east of the DRC.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was not a question of excluding political parties in the resolution of conflicts but of bringing civil society organizations to active and effective participation in the prevention and management of conflicts in Central Africa.<\/p>\n

From this meeting in Lubumbashi will result the common strategies of fight against poverty in the subregion, because there is no development without peace, according to the Project leaders of capacity building of civil society organizations in the prevention and conflict management in Central Africa (Pregesco).<\/span><\/p>\n

At the end of the three-day meeting, the participants had to have the peace-building tools and approaches, in line with the wishes of Pregesco, which organized this work in partnership with Monusco.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

These sittings are held at a crucial moment when the provinces of North Kivu and South Kivu are faced with a scandalous phenomenon of rape by FDLR armed groups and Hutu. This phenomenon decried by the entire international community has become a terrible weapon for Rwandan rebels and their Congolese accomplices. The presence of these outlaws does not justify all the sources, illicit exploitation and sale of DRC mining and forestry resources.<\/span><\/p>\n
