Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center (LOIC)

More information...

Motto: "Helping others to help themselves
Vision Statement: "Reducing unemployment and underemployment in Liberian society
Mission Statement: "To create an environment where skills are provided to individuals to reach their full potential".
The Liberia Opportunities Industrialization Center Inc, LOIC, is the largest indigenous non-governmental vocational training organization (TVET) in Liberia and has operated for over 40 consecutive years providing basic skills training and support services to disadvantaged youth in Liberian society. Since LOIC's inception in September 1977, more than 60,000 people have been trained in agricultural sciences, vocational and technical skills, and small business development, in addition to trauma counseling, peacebuilding activities, and job placement services. LOIC currently operates in three counties: Montserrado (Monrovia), Grand Bassa (Buchanan) and Bong (Gbarnga). Based on the assumption that there is no peace without economic development, LOIC has been operating within the framework of the CPS-Liberia network since its inception. LOIC's work feeds into the global Bread for the World (BftW) project "Promoting peace by strengthening civil society structures and initiatives, with a focus on youth and women in the Mano River region." Youth should be empowered to develop their potential in their home region and make informed decisions about their lives. It can also reduce their vulnerability to exploitation by organized gangs and other armed groups. As a member of SPC Liberia, it is vital now to act in this way because of the setback due to the Covid pandemic, especially for the female population, and because of the upcoming re-election phase in Liberia. It is against the 2023 elections in Liberia that more needs to be done to help women, especially young women, see themselves as agents of change and have their voices heard.
