PCC Engages 2020 Peace Day Activities, Inducts National Peace Coordinator

Summary

As part of it peace mission, the PCC Peace Office from September 18 to 19, 2020 organised activities marking the celebrations of the International Day of Peace under the theme: “Shaping Peace Together”. These activities were funded by the Civil Peace Service (CPS) Project and the PCC. The two days activities had two main events:
1) The Peace Award Ceremony and
2) Peace Campaign and Peace March.


The International Day of Peace activities had two main objectives:
a) To recognise and award peace efforts;
b) To share peace stickers and create public awareness for peace

The Peace Award

The Peace Award this year had an innovation of three categories unlike the case of the first. The various categories up for grab were Youth Category, Female Category and Male Category. Mr Atigi Samuel Motom bagged home the Award for the Youth Category while Mme Omam Esther won the Female
Category and His Eminence Christian Cardinal Tumi emerged winner of the Male Category.
The Award ceremony that held on Friday September 18, 2020 at the Synod Office Buea and presided by the Moderator of the PCC Rt. Rev Fonki Samuel in the presence of PCC National Peace Coordinator, Rev Nta William, was witnessed by over 200 guests and was animated by a Choir and two artistes. The objective of the Award was met and the event was successful.

Peace Campaign/Peace March

The Campaign and Peace March was organised in Buea on Saturday September 19, 2020. It started at Mile 17 Motor Park through Molyko to Bongo Square. This activity that lasted 4hours from 8am to 12noon had the participation of 23 TOT Alumni led by the PCC National Peace Coordinator. The participants carried out peace march, shared over two thousand peace stickers to individuals, taxis and private cars and also sensitised the public on the need for peace and the theme of the International Day of Peace 2020: “Shaping Peace Together”.

At the end of the activity, the conclusion was that a majority of the people wanted peace and were very receptive to the message of peace as they appreciated the campaign and sharing of stickers. Many people said we needed to do more and extend out of Buea so that many more people could get the message of peace. However, some people were yet to understand the objective of the activity and were reluctant to listen or collect peace stickers .

PCC National Peace Coordinator Inducted

Proceeding the International Day of Peace activities was the Institution and Induction of the National Peace Coordinator of the PCC, Rev Nta William Nche into his official functions by the Secretary, Committee of the Ministry, PCC, Rev Emmanuel B. Masok. This was during a Church Service on Sunday,
September 20, 2020 at PC Bokwaongo. The event was attended by the PCC Synod Clerk, Rev Miki Hans Abia, PCC National Communication Secretary, Rev Mokoko Mbue Thomas, Presbyterial Secretary, Fako North, Rev Foncham Ezekiel, National Coordinator, CPS Project Cameroon, Mrs Fandio Florentine, PCC Peace Office TOT Alumni, members of CCMN and about 900 worshippers who witnessed the ceremony.

Conclusion

All the activities earmarked to observe the International Day of Peace within the CPS project of the PCC Peace Work were successfully organised and carried out with the main objectives: To recognise and award peace efforts; and To share peace stickers and create public awareness for peace, attained.
