DRC: Students express peace with brass bands

The Protestant Convention Schools of the Baptist Community in Central Africa, ECP CBCA in acronym, continue with the festival ” Amani Kwetu “, in French :   Peace at home in the province of North Kivu.

After the city of Goma, it is around the schools of the cities of Butembo, Beni and the territory of Lubero in Kirumba that the students meet for peace. Peace clubs in these settings meet with their student pairs and some school neighbours.

In Kirumba, young students organized competitions including theatrical troupes, budding geniuses, drawings and interpretations related to peace. Choirs sang messages of peace.  It is under the theme: “Let’s cultivate peace for our country” that these activities are organized as part of the program “Initiation of ECPs to gender, peace and inclusive education ” funded by Bread for the World (PPLM) through the Civil Peace Service, SCP in acronym.

Students exhibit their drawings and interpret them in front of their colleagues in full cultural activity . Kirumba, 2022

In Butembo, in her speech, Kanyere Marie-Jules, in charge of gender and culture of peace in the ECP CBCA, thanked the PPLM partner who allowed the students to discover their talents and expose them to the general public. In the same town, students marched through certain streets with marching bands singing songs of peace.

In Beni, the students invited some local authorities such as some neighborhood leaders, cell leaders and avenue leaders. The objective of this festival is to contribute to the promotion of peace not only in schools, families and in our country the DRC.

The next stop will be in the city of Bukavu. In this town in South Kivu, students will also express peace through recreational and scientific activities.
