PRESENTATION OF THE SCP IN THE DRC
The Civil Service for Peace (CPS) is a program for the prevention of violence and the promotion of peace in regions in crisis and conflict. The concept was developed by actors from German civil society and is funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). The SCP combines three complementary components: carrying out projects, support by specialists and working together within a network to achieve a common goal.
Members of the SCP network together contribute to peace goals, each organization in its own region, with its own target groups and working approaches. This diversity enriches the network. Indeed, the exchange of knowledge and experiences, mutual learning and training as well as joint reflection on themes or problems relevant to all, are an integral part of this living network. This can result in joint projects, in which organizations work together on a specific problem.
The common basis of the 17 member organizations of the SCP is the contribution to a more peaceful coexistence, both through preventive work with young people on non-violent communication and mediation, conflict resolution between opposing groups psychosocial support for survivors of violence. All of this is done by the member organizations of the SCP. Technical expertise can be provided by specialists that member organizations can request from their partner organization, Bread for the World (PPLM). The specialists then work for several years within the organization and pass on their technical knowledge.
In return, they get to know the work of the organization and life in DR Congo. The SCP program is coordinated by two national coordinators with the support of Bread for the World.
